Canterbury

We woke up the next morning and decided to see just a bit more of London. After breakfast at a café where Will had a proper English breakfast of baked beans, toast, bacon (ham), and sausage, we headed down to Notting Hill. To be honest, I just really wanted to see the area, and stroll the streets. There were a lot of great antique shops and Will found a map shop with amazing maps from the 1700’s. After a stop at a local bakery to get some bread for the train ride, we headed back to the hotel to get our things and headed out of town to Canterbury. The train ride was fairly long with several stops in small towns along the way, but we finally made it. After finding the bus station, we hopped on the bus to tell them where we were staying. Needless to say the bus stopped and our hotel was about another mile up the road according to our driver. To claim the hotel was in Canterbury would be a bit of a stretch. After quite a hike we finally made it, only to turn around and walk back to the stop to head into town again. Our timing in Canterbury was a bit off. Apparently everything closes at 5 except for a few restaurants, and it was graduation for the University of Kent, so we could not go in the cathedral there (which was absolutely amazing).

After dinner at an Asian place, and lattes at a café, we attempted to take the bus back, but it proceeded to drive right past the stop even though there were people standing there, so we took a cab. We woke up to cold and rain this morning, and hopped onto the train to Dover by around 1:30. Now we are sitting waiting for our ferry, which is really an enormous ship, to come so that we can head over to Calais and get onto the train for Paris! I am beyond excited about heading to Paris and can’t wait to get there!!

PS we are having to post at an internet place because our hotel does not have internet and the pics do not load correctly
